5 Months!

5 Months Old

5 months old already?! My sweet little baby is growing way too fast!

Happy 5 Months and almost Happy Birthday to Mom!

I could barely keep him still long enough for 5 month pictures on the chair! Oh my.

Weight: 14lbs 11oz.
Height: 25 1/2 in.
Clothing Size: 3-6 month and 6 month
Diaper Size: Size 2
Feeding: 5.5-6oz. breastmilk/formula every 3-4 hours (except at night)
Sleeping: Such a good little sleeper! This month, though, we got to the swaddle stage where he was way too big for his baby swaddles (tear!) and way too small for the bigger swaddles.  Of course, since I strongly believe in swaddling, we made them work.
Nickname: "Jett Wiggle"  The perfect combination!

Milestones:
  • First rice cereal on 6/15/13
  • Playing in his car stand-up bouncer
  • First nap in the crib
  • Chest x-ray on 6/19/13 (and subsequently an rx for antibiotics & cough medicine)
  • Going to the playground
  • Jett has found his high pitch squealing voice when he's excited or happy...it's soooo loud
Yum?! Not so sure about it just yet.

Honk Honk! Just "driving" through the kitchen! So when I read reviews about this before we bought it, people kept posting about how extremely loud the music & horn is and how it never ends.  I thought they were over-exaggerating.  People, they were not. :) But it's too cute.

Swinging at the playground

Such a ticklish baby!

Likes:
  • Holding his bottle every feeding....he gets so mad if he doesn't get to hold it
  • Flipping the pages in the books we read.  He especially loves the touch & feel duck book that we have.
  • Laughing and giggling constantly.  Those sweet baby giggles are the most precious thing ever!
  • Sucking on his fingers or putting things in his mouth.  Everything goes straight from the hands...to the mouth.
  • His praying hands.  Which are just as precious as the baby giggles.  He's got to where he constantly holds his hands together like he's praying (unless they're in his mouth of course).  Everyone notices it & says they love his praying hands...the ladies in the church nursery especially think it's cute.  I just pray that he always keeps his praying hands together and has a relationship with God so he uses those praying hands to the fullest potential to serve the Lord.
Dislikes:
  • When he can't see Mom or Dad....he likes attention!
  • Mommy's fingers don't taste nearly as good as Jett's do apparently.   The face he makes when he sticks my fingers in his mouth is priceless!
  • He has started making this "Geh" noise when he's frustrated or hungry (which pretty much goes hand in hand).  I've translated that noise into him saying "Geeeeeh me my bottle!"
Things we can't live without:
  • Playtex Ventaire bottles.  Jett has developed a major attachment to his bottles.  Wants to hold the bottle constantly when being fed.  And, if there is a bottle in sight, he goes nuts! (i.e. "Geeeeeh me my bottle")
  • Cute baby boy clothes.  :)
Other thoughts from the month:
We've had a busy, eventful month! For me....I had my first out of town business trip away from Jett.  I had to go to California for 3 days for an inventory observation.  I stressed & stressed over having to pump and bring back all my milk while traveling....especially after reading all the horror stories when googling about TSA & breastmilk.  Thankfully, after inspecting every. single. bag. of milk that I had pumped while I was away AND hand inspecting my pump, I made it through security with all my milk (and my pump safely packed away in my suitcase again).  When you have a baby & are pumping, keeping your pumped milk while away = happy momma.   After going through security, I stopped by Starbucks & had them fill up my cooler with ice.  I'm sure they thought I was crazy, but I soooo didn't care.  Getting to fly first class on my trip made up for it :)  Oh & did I mention that Jon got extremely sick while I was out of town?! Very eventful couple of days.

My little Jett baby also got sickly this month.  I had to take him to the doctor twice, which resulted in his first chest x-ray.  Whew.  That was not the most fun thing ever! Because he's so small, the x-ray techs had to put him in a little tube-like contraption while I held his arms up to do the x-ray.  He, of course, was not a fan & screamed and cried like a....baby. :) Afterwards he was rewarded with a bottle, so the world was a better place in the matter of moments! Thankfully, he was okay and was given some antibiotics and cough medicine to make him better.

Cereal....so Jon thinks I'm a "hippie" when it comes to feeding, but I really didn't want to give him anything other than breastmilk or formula until he was 6 months old.  But, in order for him to learn how to eat from a spoon before then, we started giving him rice cereal once a week after he was a little over 5 months old.  Still no solid foods yet, but I'm looking forward to making his baby food!

And finally....."The many sleeping stages of the Jett baby"

On the boppy

At daycare after his teacher said he wanted to watch the whole class.
Passed smooth out.

My happily swaddled baby.

Sooo tired from shopping with mom.

He literally was kicking away on the piano & the next thing I knew,
he rolled over on his side and went to sleep.

4 Months!

4 Months Old!  These pictures are getting a little bit harder now!

 Showing off those sweet gums

Weight: 13lbs 2.5oz.
Height: 24 3/4 in.
Clothing Size: 0-3 and 3 month clothes in most everything still
Diaper Size: Size 1
Feeding: 5oz. breastmilk/formula every 3 hours (except at night)
Sleeping: Still sleeping so soundly swaddled in his crib all night.  Thank goodness.
Nickname: In addition to "Wiggle Wiggle" the Jett baby (another nickname) has become my little buddy.  The baby has too many nicknames!

Milestones:
  • Holding his own bottle while eating
  • Recognizing himself in the mirror
  • First little sickliness (cough, runny nose, etc.)
  • First lake weekend -- kiddie swimming pool, party barge, etc.

Such a big boy!

Likes:
  • Loves watching everything.  I call him my nosy little baby because he's so interested in seeing everything that's going on around him.
  • Loves being outside
  • Sitting up or standing up in Mommy or Daddy's laps
  • "Talking" up a storm!
Dislikes:
  • When he can't see Mom or Dad.  He's starting to notice, especially when waking up from naps, that Mom & Dad aren't always in the room with him right when he wakes up....which makes him very fussy!
Things we can't live without:
  • Sleep! We had a couple of nights where Jett was talking in his sleep, which came through loud & clear on the baby monitor.  How quickly you forget those sleepless nights with a newborn when they start sleeping through the night! Thank goodness it was just a couple of nights!
  • A good schedule.  I'm sure it's the organized accountant in me (ha!), but I love having a good routine and schedule for the day.  I've had to learn to go with the flow when it doesn't always go as planned (i.e. daycare....the root of all schedule changes!), but we have stayed pretty consistent!
  • My iPhone.  Seriously...how did anyone ever capture the perfect picture/video of their child before this handy device?! :)
Other thoughts from the month:
Pretty proud of my little baby for barely crying through shots.  He did at the very end, but not nearly as much as I thought he would. Those real tears will get you!

At the doctors office for 4 month checkup

After the appointment, Mommy & Daddy got Starbucks as a treat for the shots :)

Memorial Day

Being in my family...you have to LOVE the lake.  Growing up, we were constantly in the water whether it was at the swimming pool for swim team, fishing with Daddy, or at the house boat.  So, of course, we have to start the Jett baby out in the water early!

For Memorial Day weekend, we went to Mom & Dad's house.  Our lake weekends have definitely changed with having Jett.  Gone are the all day out on the party barge lake days.  Those are now replaced with small lake/party barge time and a longer naptime.  :)

Passed out asleep on the Party Barge

One day, I'm sure, he'll ask me why I put him in this little hat.  I think it's precious!

Mom & Dady bought a kiddie pool.  We decided to put him in the kiddie pool on the deck instead of getting in the water.  At first, he was so confused by the water, but when he realized he could kick and splash he liked it much better!

3 Months Old

3 Months Old

Weight: Not sure...we go back to the Dr. at 4 months old
Height: Not sure...we go back to the Dr. at 4 months old
Clothing Size: 0-3 and 3 month clothes in most everything
Diaper Size: Size 1
Feeding: 5oz. breastmilk every 3 hours (except at night)
Sleeping: Sleeping in his big boy crib every night from around 9pm until 6:30am.  Such a good little sleeper! We still have a few nights where he wakes up from being either not tired or hungry.  But, most of the time, all it takes is a little food & some rocking in the glider & he's back to sleep in no time.
Nickname: He's still definitely my little "Wiggle Wiggle" but has also developed into becoming quite the little Possum.  So many times I've gone to lay him down in his crib (or bouncer, nap nanny, etc. for naps) and his eyes pop right back open looking at me.  Most of the time it's accompanied by the cutest little smile.  I envision him wanting to say "Hey Mom, gotcha! I'm not really tired!"

Milestones:
  • Sitting up in the Bumbo
  • Rolling from his back to his tummy
  • Starting to have a real laugh
  • Baby Dedication at Church (and Mommy's first Mother's Day)
  • Going to daycare so Mommy & Daddy could go back to work :(

"I'm not ready to wake up from my nap & face the day!!"

 Happy baby boy!

Smiling at the great-Papaw

This picture just makes my heart melt.  Jett baby & Papaw at Papaw's house in April.  He was loving making all kinds of noises talking to my Papaw.  Just seeing the two of them together is the most precious thing ever.  I wish Mamaw was here to meet Jett, but I'm so grateful that he has a great-Papaw that loves him so much!

Sitting in the Bumbo

Amazed by the monkeys

My little laid back kiddo

Likes:
  • Loves the monkeys on top of his bouncer.  He is so amazed at them when they move.
  • Sitting up instead of laying down...with lots of assistance, though
  • Reading the touch & feel books with Mommy
  • Constantly making noises and figuring out his vocal cords
  • Looking and paying attention to everything around him
  • Loves being outside
Dislikes:
  • We're still not a fan of changing outfits, especially the ones that go over his head.  But, we've turned this into a game of "peek-a-boo" so it's more enjoyable.
  • Washing his head in the bathtub
Things we can't live without:
My list really hasn't changed much from last month.  The swaddle is seriously the funniest part.   After Jett has ate, changed his diaper, etc. I turn the lamp on in the nursery & put him in his swaddle.  These days he gets all tucked in the swaddled & wants to "talk" constantly.  We then rock him for maybe about 5 minutes and he's out! His new thing is that he does not want his pacifier to sleep (unless he's in all out meltdown mode).  He does really good just falling asleep on his own.  And for that, I'm so thankful.
  • Fisher Price SnugaMonkey Bouncer- Seriously...he LOVES this!
  • Angelcare Video Monitor: Watching Jett sleep is precious, but knowing that the sensor will go off if something happens is priceless! It really puts me at ease.
  • Swaddles: This baby definitely sleeps better all swaddled in. It's like once he's swaddled, he knows it's time for bedtime.
Other thoughts from the month:
Going back to work was the hardest thing ever.   Jon & I were both blessed to be able to take off 12 weeks together to be at home with Jett.  Needless to say, after being home for that long & having such precious baby, made both of us want to stay home forever! :)  Thankfully, I have an amazing husband and amazing work family so I'll only be working part time for now.  Now that I'm back at work, I can honestly say I love having my adult interactions and being able to eat lunch with both hands for a full hour break.  Haha! But, it's wonderful to also be able to have the flexibility to be at home and spend time with Jett part of the week.

At first, I thought daycare was the most awful thing ever.  It was so hard for me to let go of my baby.  I mean, who loves him as much as his mommy & daddy do?! The first day he came home a screaming, crying mess.  Which, of course, meant that I was a crying mess.  Huge meltdown in the Baker household.  I was convinced he hated daycare and felt so guilty having to go back to work.  Thankfully, after we got his schedule down with his daycare (and told them they didn't have to change his diaper 18 times a day unless absolutely necessary!), he is perfectly fine there and the mommy guilt is somewhat gone.   It's still hard some days to drop him off, but other days it's just so much easier knowing he's in good hands.

And...last thing.  Honestly, I wasn't sure how long I'd make it breastfeeding.  Around 3 months I had to start pumping exclusively.  Whoever has the misconception that breastfeeding/pumping is easy is sooooo wrong! I'm still hanging in there & have given my self a short-term goal of pumping until Jett is 6 months old.  I wish I was one of those mothers that has a wonderful milk supply.  Sadly, I've tried everything but I just don't get enough milk to provide all that Jett needs in a day.  I've had to also let go of that Mommy guilt & realize that giving my baby formula is not a bad thing.  :)  He still gets 90% breastmilk in a day and for me, that is perfect.  As long as I have a happy, healthy baby that's all that matters!

Easter & Baby Dedication

EASTER:
Jett's first Easter was March 31, 2013.  At this point, I was still so hesitant in putting him in the church nursery (or leaving him with anyone actually....first time mom & dad syndrome for sure).  We took him to big church with us & he was wonderful!

 Passed out sleeping

Me, Jett baby & my mom

 LOVE that little gummy smile

Family picture---Daddy was still off work & didn't have to shave.
Looking a little Duck Dynastyish

Best buddies...for now...until he figures out he can grab her fur

Our version of the Easter Bunny picture for the year.  It was still too cold & yucky outside to make a special trip to the mall to get a picture made.

Baby Dedication:
Central Baptist's all-church baby dedication was held May 5, 2013.  It was such a special night getting to see all the babies in the church & praying for our sweet little ones.

2 Months Old

2 Months Old

Weight: 11 lbs, 1 oz.
Height: 22 1/2 in.
Clothing Size: 0-3 & some 3 month outfits.
Diaper Size: Size 1
Feeding: 5-5.5 oz. breastmilk each feeding
Sleeping: Around 7 weeks old Jett started sleeping through the night! So proud.  Now he consistently sleeps from 6-8 hours a night.  We'll take it! He slept in the pack & play in our bedroom until around 9 weeks old....even though Mommy was not ready to kick him out to the crib just yet!
Nickname: "Wiggle Wiggle"  I swear Jett moves his head, hands, and feet around constantly

Emma has decided that Baby Brother is okay.  The afternoon this picture was taken, I was going through mail & cleaning up.  I looked up from the kitchen & found Emma curled up on top of Jett  and they both were sleeping.  I picked her up & she was not happy! For 3 more times that afternoon, she was back on top of him.  I'm just glad she's finally come around.

All smiles & making tons of noises

Sleeping in my big boy bed!

I love making faces!
Milestones:
  • Sleeping through the night
  • Sleeping in the crib at 9 weeks old (Sidenote: This was Daddy's idea.  Mommy was so worried about him sleeping in the big crib in his big room all by his little self.  But guess what?! He sleeps so good in the crib & I sleep better too.  Thank goodness for our Angelcare Monitor!)
  • Holding his head up more
  • 2 month old shots (that hurt Mommy a lot more than Jett)
  • Making all kinds of "talking" noises
  • First road trip to see Nana & Joe-Joe in Hot Springs.  Jett was better than Emma on the trip down!

Likes:
  • Loves his bouncer still & loving the Nap Nanny
  • Playing on the Activity Center
  • Looking at himself in the mirror
  • Waking up a happy baby---getting unswaddled & "talking" to Mommy
  • Laying on the changing pad & smiling/talking
  • Bath time
  • Being sang to
Thanks Mrs. Kathy for this fun toy!
Dislikes:
  • Changing outfits, especially the ones that go over his head
  • Washing his hair in the bathtub
Things we can't live without:
  • Fisher Price SnugaMonkey Bouncer- Seriously...he LOVES this!
  • Angelcare Video Monitor:  Watching Jett sleep is precious, but knowing that the sensor will go off if something happens is priceless! It really puts me at ease.
  • Swaddles: This baby definitely sleeps better all swaddled in.  It's like once he's swaddled, he knows it's time for bedtime.
  • Pack & Play:  We traveled to see Nana & Joe-Joe in Hot Springs & the Pack & Play was the best.
  • Medela Pump in Style Breastpump
  • Gripe Water/Gas Drops
  • Diaper rash ointment
